Saint Christina's Book Week

Book Week is brilliant!

Children’s Book Week at Saint Christina’s was energetic and action packed as children were entertained and amused by an assembly given by author in residence for the day, Tamara MacFarlane, and her assistant, Gilbert Giggles.

Tamara offered the children many valuable insights into how characters are created and how stories develop and shared many exciting extracts from her new book entitled Amazing Esmee. This novel is based around a girl from a circus family who organises a circus with her cousins and animal friends.

While Tamara helped us to create a character and narrative during the assembly, Gilbert Giggles had us laughing ourselves silly as he performed circus tricks. Some children were very lucky to be able to perform these tricks during the assembly and received a rapturous applause for their efforts.

The children in Key Stage One took great delight in writing a menu and instructions for how to host the perfect bad -mannered tea party! Pupils in Key Stage Two were similarly delighted in learning how to perfect circus tricks in an extended performance workshop with Gilbert Giggles.

Our special guest author signed copies of her book for the pupils and these copies were available for purchase during two book fairs hosted by ‘Tales on Moon Lane’ Children’s bookstore during the week.

As with last year, our special thanks go to our dedicated Volunteer Parent Librarian, Mrs. Sarah Maude, for her help with organising a most successful week and for ensuring that the children had a wonderful time!
