Saint Christina’s School Councillors attend Mayor’s Question Time at City Hall Wednesday 13th October, 2010
Saint Christina’s School Councillors experience democracy in action at City Hall
On Wednesday 13th October, Saint Christina’s School Councillors from Years 1 to 6 led a leadership day at City Hall with other school councillors from Cavendish School and St. Mary’s. During our visit we learned about leadership and governance in action. We learned how to effectively chair and to follow an agenda for a meeting and how to consider and debate topics fairly. We enjoyed listening to Mr. Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, as he answered many important questions.
During our educational visit to City Hall we were given special access to the top of City Hall and we were able to look down on London from above! On a giant aerial view map of London, we managed to find the location of our school and viewed the Olympic Park site for the London Olympics in 2010. We also managed to view information about London on the interactive screens in City Hall. Most importantly, we learned more about London and how decisions are made that shape the future of the city.
We enjoyed this experience and the memories of our day. We look forward to applying what we have learnt to our school council meetings this year.
