Spanish at Saint Christina's

Spanish at Saint Christina’s School follows the QCA scheme of work. A number of topics are covered throughout KS1 and KS2, focusing mainly on a communicative approach to learning the language.

The aim is for pupils to feel confident in expressing the language through games and songs and, as they get older, they become more aware of how the language works through grammar and phonetics. From Year 3 onwards they become more aware of the cultural importance of the language. By the conclusion of the programme, year six students will have gained a strong understanding of grammatical concepts such as conjugation of regular and irregular verbs, infinitives, first, second and third person singular and plural verbs.Native Spanish speakers are given extension work, mainly through reading comprehension exercises; to differentiate learning in the Spanish curriculum. Online media, including BBC support materials, are used to support the Spanish programme.

Parents are most welcome to contact me via e-mail using the school year group e-mail address for your child. I look forward to enhancing your child’s appreciation of the Spanish language at Saint Christina’s School.
