Year Six Day trip to Paris

On Friday 6th May, the Year 6 pupils, along with Mr. Reilly, Senora Cabajo and Miss Villani, journeyed to Paris for the day.  We marvelled at the sights of one of the world’s most enticing cities and delighted in exploring Cathédrale Notre Dame de Paris, Musee d''''Orsay, the area of Saint-Germain des Pres, the Jardin des Tuileries and one of Paris’s foremost shopping destinations, Galeries Lafayette.

This international day trip supported a vast array of curriculum aims including religious education, art, history, geography, foreign language learning, personal development and citizenship. The Year Six pupils were afforded opportunities to use their French in real-life contexts and to deepen their French vocabulary in a myriad of Parisian settings. Throughout the day, the Year Six girls completed curriculum tasks in journal writing, religious worship and prayer, sketching of architectural features of Notre Dame Cathedral, an art appreciation task and analysis of an impressionist work by Edgar Degas in the collection at Musee d’Orsay, as well as an observational task in Galeries Lafayette.

The journey to and from Paris on the Eurostar was another highlight, as was travelling through the Channel Tunnel. As one Year Six pupil shared in her written reflection: ‘What a day! I loved it! I wish I could go back again. It was so much fun to be in Paris and the Rose Window in Notre Dame Cathedral was beautiful. The Parisians were kind and considerate. The Avenue des Champs-Élysées was buzzing with people and we enjoyed seeing the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower. We were like celebrities because we were wearing our school uniform and everyone was taking pictures of us. This is one of the best school trips I’ve been on.’

We returned to London feeling both exhausted and yet exhilarated, and our day trip to Paris shall be etched in our memory with great fondness. We look forward to future day trips to Paris as part of curriculum and cultural enrichment opportunities at Saint Christina’s School.
