SAINT CHRISTINA’S SCHOOL BULLETIN
Last week, the whole school celebrated International Week with a wonderful array of activities to embrace different cultures around the world.
The Early Years focussed on China, Year 1 concentrated closer to home by learning more about England, Year 2 looked to the Pacific Islands, Year 3 ventured to Italy, Year 4 Brazil, Year 5 Ireland and Year 6 Greece and South Korea.
The class teachers organised many exciting activities and tasks to learn more about these different countries. Examples include: a Chinese New Year Parade throughout the school by Nursery (with a 2 metre long dragon!); Reception made fantastic Year of the Pig masks; Year 1 had a civilised English tea party (including scones and cream!); Year 3 invited Mr Serio to learn about Italy; Year 4 invited Mrs Serio to learn about Brazil and made international themed biscuits and brochures; Year 5 had an Irish Dancing workshop and Year 6 learnt about ancient Greek scientists.
The week culminated with Friday’s International Mass which was superbly led by Year 2. The class amazed us all by speaking 10 different languages; the children reminded us that we are all one family of human beings who share God’s earth and that our different colours, languages and customs bring its richness to life. It was a delight to see the Chapel packed full with the children looking sensational in their international colours.
All in all, it was a wonderful celebration of diversity and culture which was a worthy reflection of the truly international nature of our school.
