Friday 12th June

Wednesday morning, Year 2 finally got to complete one of the most exciting parts of our Great Fire of London learning. Back in the Autumn Term, the children designed and built their own Tudor houses as part of our History topic. Since then, they have been patiently waiting to find out what would happen when we put them to the ultimate test! With the help of Mr Steve, we took the houses out to the playground and carefully burned them, watching how quickly the fire spread from house to house. It was a fantastic way to bring our learning to life and helped the children gain a real understanding of why the Great Fire spread so rapidly through London in 1666.

The children were fascinated by what they saw and made some excellent observations. We even sang some of our Great Fire of London songs as the houses burned, which made for a memorable end to a topic that Year 2 has thoroughly enjoyed.

A huge thank you to Mr Steve for helping us organise and safely supervise the activity, and to Ms Bretones, who worked with the children to design and build the Tudor houses back in the Autumn Term.
