Friday 2nd October

Our Space Day on Monday was a huge success! It was lovely to hear the buzz and excitement around the school as all of the children took part in a fantastic day of space-themed learning and activities throughout the whole school.

All children had the opportunity to take part in two exciting space workshops. We were delighted to welcome the visiting Wonder Dome Planetarium, where presenter Matt showed the children some amazing clips and shared a huge array of fascinating information about different aspects of space. The children thoroughly enjoyed the interactive sessions and had lots of wonderful questions to ask. It was fantastic to see their curiosity and enthusiasm as they discovered more about the planets, stars and the wider universe.

The children also took part in a rocket workshop with Mr Artur and me, where they designed, created and then fired their very own rockets! It was fantastic to see the children working together, sharing ideas and helping each other to construct their rockets. They showed great creativity and perseverance as they worked on their designs and prepared them for launch. The best part, of course, was watching them soar into the sky!

Our KS1 and KS2 classes spent the remainder of the day working on a variety of space-related activities linked to different areas of the curriculum. Working in small teams, the children were challenged to complete as many activities as possible. It was wonderful to see them taking ownership of their learning, collaborating with their classmates and producing some fantastic pieces of work. There was a real sense of excitement and enthusiasm throughout the day, with the children thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to learn in such a fun and different way.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a memorable experience for the children. A special mention must also go to Chef Nigel, who created a fantastic space-themed packed lunch, which was enjoyed by everyone.

My Amazing Space Day by Matthew Y5

On Monday, I had an amazing Space Day, and it was one of the best days ever! We did three main activities: going to the planetarium, making rockets and completing space-themed tasks.

My absolute favourite part was going to the planetarium. It had a real-life projector that made me feel as though I was actually in space. I really enjoyed it! We got to listen to lots of facts, and I learned a lot. At certain points during the planetarium session, we could ask questions. I asked lots of questions, and I really felt that this was a special part of Space Day.

Something that definitely deserves a highlight was rocket making. I built my rocket out of paper, card and tape, and I placed it onto a rocket foot-pump launcher. When I jumped on it, my rocket went the highest in the air! I really felt that I had put a lot of effort into it. We launched all of the rockets four at a time, and we each got around three turns. It went brilliantly! This was also my sister's favourite activity.

Other activities included completing space-themed tasks related to different subjects, including philosophy, drama, Spanish and more. All the tasks were ranked from one to five stars, depending on their difficulty and the number of points they were worth. One task I particularly enjoyed was writing a four-line rhyming rap about space in music, which I presented to the class. I was very proud of it!

Something else that really sparked my creativity was the space quiz, which I chose to take on. This task was an incredible experience for me. I added slide transitions, cool fonts and lots of effects to make my presentation stand out.

To conclude, I thought Space Day was a really exciting and great experience. There were so many activities that made it feel like a special day. I can't wait for next year's Space Day, and I am really looking forward to it!
