World Book Day 2026

My favourite day of the year! I absolutely love seeing the costumes the children come to school in. The effort, creativity and energy are incredible! So firstly, thank you very much for always supporting our World Book Day celebrations.

We had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day across the school. So many wonderful activities have taken place throughout the day, including the opening of our brand-new school library, which the children already adore.

The day began with a lively and inspiring assembly led by Year 6, who reminded us of the power of stories to spark imagination, build empathy and take us on incredible adventures. Through famous book openings, favourite characters and thoughtful reflections, they showed us that every time we open a book, we open the door to new worlds.

Across the school, children enjoyed a wide range of book-themed activities. Reception had a fantastic day exploring stories in creative ways. Inspired by Supertato, the story behind many costumes, the children designed and made their own books, created stories in the story corner and ran a class library in the role-play area. They also shared stories and costumes with their Year 3 buddies.

Year 1 loved celebrating, sharing the stories behind their costumes, taking part in a book quiz, designing bookmarks and enjoying special reading time. They also loved visiting the brand-new school library, which inspired them to keep exploring new stories. The children finished the day by writing their own imaginative short stories.

Year 2 and Year 5 enjoyed a lovely buddy session, reading together, designing book covers and bookmarks, and completing book-themed word searches.

Year 6 channelled their inner Shakespeare, writing their own spell poems inspired by Macbeth, and spent time reading to their Nursery buddies, sharing their love of stories with the youngest members of the school.

It was a joyful day filled with creativity, imagination and a shared love of reading.
